Learn More about the Alternative Gift Market
The Alternative Gift Market Is a Joint Community Effort
The UUFF Social Action Committee organized Falmouth’s first Alternative Gift Market in 2007 and has continued to provide leadership for this annual event. Several Falmouth faith congregations sponsor the gift market: the Falmouth Jewish Congregation, John Wesley United Methodist Church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, First Congregational Church, Church of the Messiah, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth (UUFF), and the Waquoit Congregational Church.
Representatives from these congregations form the Steering Committee, who choose the charities with input from church members. Suggestions from the community are also welcome. Volunteers from the sponsoring congregations and representatives of the local charities run the gift market. The number of sponsors and the popularity of the market have grown every year, as have the funds raised by the event. Funds raised by AGM over the last ten years totaled $334,900 in donations and $100,000 in fair trade sales for a grand total of $434,900.
