Religious Services Committee
Purpose: we support the minister, DRE and Choir Director in providing Sunday Services that fulfill the mission of the congregation.
Meeting time and place: we meet in the west wing meeting room at the meetinghouse every month on the 4th Thursday at 4:30 pm barring unexpected change.
Greeters & Refreshments - a member of the committee assigns and coordinates members and friends in serving as greeters and providing coffee hour refreshments. There are two greeters and two refreshment providers for each Sunday Service. All adult members and friends under 80 years of age are asked to serve as a greeter and refreshment provider about once a year.
Speakers - The minister is responsible for the Sunday service on all but one Sunday a month and is entitled to a three week vacation each year. A member of the committee finds speakers for when the minister is not responsible. The purpose is to provide a break for the minister and variety for the congregation.
Music - a member ensures communication among all concerned to be sure the choice and style of music complements the readings and sermon each Sunday.
Sanctuary - a member of the committee sets up the chairs in the sanctuary for Sunday Service very Saturday.
Shepherds - a member of the committee recruits, trains and assigns two members to open and close the meetinghouse and help greeters and refreshment people with their tasks each Sunday. Eight to eleven pairs serve as shepherds so each pair serves about once every two months.
Feedback and input - all members attend services and discuss ways to improve services, understanding that the minister has freedom of the pulpit, i.e., the committee may suggest but the minister or guest minister decides the content and order of service for the Sunday services.
Members as of October 2015 - new members are always welcome. There is no limit to the number of committee members and both members and friends may serve.
