Recovering and recycling human waste nutrients before they go into the waste stream will reduce water pollution, global loss of nitrogen and phosphorus, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Urine contains most of the nutrients in human waste and recycling urine as fertilizer to agriculture is better and more affordable than wasting it in septic or sewer systems.

Earle Barnhart and Hilda Maingay are environmental activists, researchers, educators and board members of the Green Center, a nonprofit environmental organization at Alchemy Farm in Hatchville. For more info go to www.newalchemists.net

On Saturday April 22 at 2 PM there will be a field trip to visit the site at 2 PM at 28 Common Way (a dirt road off Hatchville Road, East Falmouth).
