UU Falmouth Arbor Day on You Tube with Lew Stern

UU Falmouth’s 2022 Tree Planting Program: “Be the Hope: Planting 1000 Native Trees for Eco-Justice on Cape Cod”

People are making a big difference by planting native trees on the Cape. UU Falmouth initiated a big increase to the annual Arbor Day activity of planting trees, working with 30 organizations. Thanks to the enthusiasm of hundreds of people, 1,500 native White Oak saplings across the Cape will get good homes where they can thrive and improve their surroundings.  The one to two-year-old, 12-24” saplings are expected to grow to about about a foot a year to twenty feet tall within eight years and up to one hundred feet in about twenty years. Each mature White Oak supports over 500 wildlife species, supports the aquifer, provides oxygen for two people, and absorbs pounds of carbon per year.

Any donations beyond the costs for the tree planting  will go to social and environmental non-profits. This tree planting program is being conducted in collaboration with the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, the Faith Communities Environmental Network, and other environmental, climate, and Eco-justice organizations Across the Cape and Islands.

Questions can be directed to Lew Stern beginning April 25.
