Unitarian Universalists believe that we have a responsibility to work for social and environmental justice. We ask our members and friends to let their actions speak their values concerning compassion, justice, peace and stewardship of the earth. We also strive to protect and preserve the inherent worth and dignity of all people. We welcome all ideas to achieve these goals.
Social Action Committee 2024 Priorities:
- Eco-justice and combating Climate Change
- Support Upper Cape Food Security
- Support the Wampanoag Tribe and the Language Reclamation Project
If you have an interest in supporting these initiatives, or have other Social Action suggestions, please let us know.
The Social Action Committee engages in activities to support the community and the membership and friends of UU Falmouth. Here are some of the activities:
Local Giving Program– The committee sells gift cards for various grocery stores who donate 5% of the value of the cards to UU Falmouth.
UU Falmouth for Food– Food Collection for the Falmouth Service Center and donations for the three Food Pantries, Falmouth, Bourne and Sandwich. Please bring the monthly requested donations to the meetinghouse and put in the red wagon by the front door.
Share the Plate – Each month 50% of one of the collection plates goes to a charity selected by the committee.
Environmental Justice Activities– The committee supports activities to promote Environmental Justice, including an Earth Day Service.
Gifts for Good – an Alternative Gift Market-Each year the congregation organizes and participates in this very worthwhile community event.
